The Art of the Drummer was first published in 1977 as a result of my desire to find a satisfactory tutor method for those wishing to learn to play drums and also those players who wanted to enhance their existing skills.

Once the Art of the Drummer Volume One was in print, review copies were mailed to various music magazines and we anxiously awaited their verdict.

The reviews brought back positive verdicts of good to outstanding and this set the scene for the acceptance of the book by leading teachers and players from all around the world.

As the success of the Art of the Drummer Volume One grew, I progressed the teaching further with the release of a Volume Two.  At about this time I started to focus my attentions upon the specific drum techniques for the differing styles of music, which resulted in the subsequent publications of the 'Contemporary Drum Fills', 'Funky Drumming' and the 'Rock Drumming' series of tuition books.

It is very gratifying that The Art of the Drummer series is used by many leading drum teachers throughout the world.  Currently, including Mark De Souza (Singapore Symphony Orchestra) and Dave Matheson at the world famous Gordonstoun school in Scotland, as well as many, many more.

My thanks goes to all of the teachers for their support over the years.

The Art of the Drummer Volume One has just been reprinted for the sixteenth time.  Retail stores continue to stock the books and I am especially grateful to all those specialist drumstores and general music shops for their efforts.
